Katherine Rivas Fuentes is a Venezuelan flutist with an outstanding trajectory in the world of music. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Flute Performance with distinction from the Royal Schools of Music, and a Bachelor’s degree with distinction and publication mention from UNEARTE (National Experimental University of the Arts).
A lo largo de su carrera, she has received two Latin Grammy nominations: one as principal flute in the CD “Fiesta” with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela conducted by Maestro Gustavo Dudamel in 2009, and another as Associate Principal Flute and Piccolo of the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra in Mexico, with the CD “Mariachitlan”.
Rivas ha formado parte de importantes orquestas y agrupaciones musicales, desde el Sistema Nacional de Orquestas Infantiles y Juveniles de Venezuela, incluyendo la Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar dirigida por el Maestro Gustavo Dudamel (2005-2016), hasta la Filarmónica de Jalisco en México (2016-2021).
She has also participated in music festivals such as the Bonn Beethovenfest, Lucerne Festival, BBC Proms in the UK, and the Edinburgh Festival, as well as the Mahler Festival with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, culminating with the recording of a DVD as principal flutist in Mahler’s 8th Symphony.
